John Luce Lockett Born 1952 John studied at The Northampton School of Art and The Byam Shaw Kensington, following this with extensive study in life drawing and human anatomy. Although he has worked in a variety of media, including watercolour, etching and sculpture, he has always considered himself to be an oil painter. John's primary interest is painting people in situations, whether it be a beautiful woman or old men in a bar, and although John does take the occasional commission( and once exhibited with the Royal Society of Portrait Painters), he prefers to choose his own models ,locations and compositions and weave his own narrative both real and imagined around the characters in his pictures. John opened his own gallery in Northampton
following his first London One Man Show in Cork Street in 1983 . His gallery
then ran successfully for the following nine years. In 1995 John painted
a collection of works ( The White Collection) Also in 1995 John gained national and international acclaim for his reconstruction portrait of Fletcher Christian the Bounty mutineer. This is now the definitive portrait of Christian throughout the world, and is featured in the book "Fragile Paradise" by Glynn Christian. In 1998 John worked as medical illustrator for Mr Nigel Cobb the eminent Orthopaedic surgeon now retired and produced a series of drawings for an international lecture tour on his ground-breaking surgical technique "Tibialis Posterior Repair" In 1999 John completed a collection of work called " 20th Century Romance" a sweet and sour mixture as his marriage of seventeen years also ended in this year. "Romance" was exhibited both in Northampton and London and four paintings from this collection were published as Limited edition Prints by Pole Position In 2000 John was again commissioned by London Contemporary Art to paint a collection of work subsequently called "NightHawks" which has been exhibited all over the world by West End Galleries Florida and by LCA in both New York and Los Angeles. John is now working with the Bentley Publishing Group in California USA. Open prints of "Enter the Labirynth" and "All that Glisters" will be in worldwide distribution from May2004 and will also be available signed from LHG from around the same time, though stocks are limited..
